I presume that by ';mineral lab'; you are referring to a section of your Earth Science, or similar, class, in which you learn about various minerals, running the gamut of the Mohs Hardness Scale (e.g., talc at the softest end, diamonds at the hardest).

Minerals are a part of your everyday life, from the substances that make up your home, furnishings, appliances, etc, to the things that you eat (e.g., zinc).

I trust that you will give me credit for this on your homework assignment, or, at the very least, send me a sample diamond! ;)
